No matter what your skin type, or how much make-up you do/do not wear, the regimen for proper face care is basically the same.  This is the basic order:  we cleanse, tone, and moisturize. In that order!

Additions to the routine are according to individual needs.

If you don’t wear any makeup, and just want to care for your skin, your routine would look something like this:

Morning: Cleanser -Toner -Moisturize (something with a sun block).

Nighttime: Cleanser that cleans pores -Toner- Moisturizer (preferably a rich night cream).

Once a week a good exfoliate and facemask should be used to clarify the skin.

If you use makeup regularly, your routine can vary.  A typical full- care skin care regimen would look like this:

Although many women use soap and water to wash their faces, most beauty experts recommend a double cleaner method in which you use a make-up  removing cleanser first, then a cleanser that gently cleans your skin.

You apply your toner after you complete your cleansing phase, but before any moisturizers are applied. A toner is used to bring your skin’s pH back to its optimum levels. Many cleansers are too alkaline and your skin’s natural protective layer is acidic.

Everyone should moisturize as their final step whether you wear makeup or not. It helps replenishing your skin while boosting your elastin levels and keeping skin supple. During the day, it is recommended to use a cream with sun block in it. At night it is best to use something rich in emollients.

If you are intent on finding the fountain of youth and tend to layer multiple products during your face care ritual, when completing the moisturization segment of care, always apply any serums before creams, as creams are thicker and heavier. Any water based products should be applied before any oil based ones. This applies to the treatment and moisturization steps only.

These steps and suggestions are the basics of face care.  You can personalize your own routine by investigating different products, to talk to a beauty expert about what is best for you!
